Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is on and I'm watchin' it again for the millionth time! I just love this movie! I wish they would bring back all the characters and actors and actresses and make a sequel, even if it isn't in the book, and show us what happens in their lives from the end of the movie.

Here is a great video that shows the best parts of the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice along with dialogue and music. I like this 2005 version the best. Perhaps it's the chemistry between Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy and Kira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet. All the other actors and actresses are excellent too. The very last scene is amazing with them sitting outside on the veranda in the dusky twilight. It's like a Maxfield Parish or Robert Atkinson Fox painting come to life.
It's so beautiful what they say... and so romantic!

This is the older version of Pride and Prejudice from the 1995 TV series. Colin Firth is fabulous at playing the part of
Mr. Darcy. I'm a big fan of his movies.

Although this is old news, I just heard there is a third version of Pride and Prejudice. This one was made for "Lost in Austen" by ITV and created with a spin on the original story by Jane Austen. Elliot Cowan plays the part of Mr. Darcy, and actress Jemima Rooper plays Amanda Price who goes back in time to swap places with Elizabeth Bennet played by Gemma Arterton.
I haven't seen it but will definitely have to check it out.

Thank you Andie for the excellent info about this film. Her comment below has some fabulous Pride and Prejudice trivia!

Have any of you been to the places in Europe where they filmed Pride and Prejudice? I can only imagine how beautiful the grand estates and grounds are in person. I would love to see them someday. Why am I so fascinated with the past?

So which version of Pride and Prejudice do you like best?
Better yet, which version of Mr. Darcy do you like best...
Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen or Elliot Cowan?

Like this post! My favourite has to be with Colin Firth. The chemistry between the 2 main characters was perfect.
I have seen lost in Austen and wasn't sure if I'd like it but I did. I decided not to compare to the others.

My favorite is the Matthew Macfadyen version. I too had to watch it over and over when I first became enamored with Matthew and his talent. The romance was just amazing! I now keep tabs on Matthew's career... he's doing some great things. I actually got to meet him in NYC when he went to see the play Frost/Nixon. He was so friendly and gracious.

It was actually Jemima Rooper who played Amanda Price in "Lost in Austen". If you like a bit of trivia: Jemima Rooper was Tom Mison's (Charles Bingley) flatmate until recently & Tom Mison is friends with Rupert Friend who is the boyfriend of Kierra Knightly. All very friendly!
If you'd like to know more about what happens after the end of the movie, in the book "Pride & Prejudice" Jane Austen tidies up the ending quite nicely & gives more info than in any of the screen versions. X Andie

PS: Loved Colin Firth- he was "the" Darcy straight from the book. Elliot Cowan was a close second. If you haven't read the book, I thoroughly recommend it. Fabulous reading! X Andie

I am firmly in the 2005 P&P camp, although I love everything Austen. I have seen the movie a million times also, Bonnie, and never tire of it.

I wish there was a movie sequel as well, but barring that, perhaps my novels might intrigue you! I was inspired primarily by the movie and have written a series that is published through Sourcebooks. If interested, check my website: www.darcysaga.net.

Forgive the shameless self promotion, but mutual love of P&P is something that riles me up every time!

Thanks! Sharon Lathan

Thank you everybody so much for all the wonderful comments and bits of information I didn't know! You guys are the best!!! I'm so glad they keep playing this movie over and over. I haven't read the book (gasp!) but think I will! I guess love is the ultimate fairy tale we all hope comes true.
