Vanity for Humanity

While you're sitting at your vanity applying your makeup, dabbing on perfume and getting ready to face the world... you can have some fun making a more beautiful life for others too. Claudia at The Paris Apartment is creating a candid look at the modern vanity top called "Vanity for Humanity" to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity. She first wrote about it in her post "Giving it all away." You can help too by sending Claudia a picture of your own dressing table vanity! Be sure to add some of your beautiful pretty things like perfume bottles, makeup, pictures, glass jars, brushes, flowers and so on. You can send as many photos of your vanity as you like to her email address at theparisapartment@yahoo.com.

I'm so honored that Claudia asked me to help out the project. I was able to find many beautiful photos of vanities and dressing tables, both old and new. She posted some on her blog as pictures and links here It doesn't have to be like this. Be sure to check out the many beautiful vanity pictures that her fabulous bloggers sent in so far too. They can all be seen in her posts Vanity for Humanity's Taking Shape and I need help. Better yet, just type in "vanity" in the search box on her blog to see them all!

I sent Claudia a picture of my antique Venetian vanity with my collection of old perfume bottles and pretty things. I'm so lucky to have inherited many items from my wonderful Mom and Grandma. It seems I have a bit of a shaky hand lately as the photos are a bit blurry. I'll try and take some better shots soon which is a good excuse to have some more fun rearranging the things too!

Claudia has some glamorous vanity tables for sale at her Paris Apartment Boutique. You can even get a little vanity chair too. Check out all the pretty things she has for sale in her online boutique at The Paris Apartment Collection! There are many delightful treasures to discover!

Happy 4th of July!

"Independence Day in the U.S., is an annual holiday commemorating the formal adoption by the Continental Congress of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia. Although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the Fourth of July holiday has been accepted as the official anniversary of U.S. independence and is celebrated in all states and territories of the U.S.

The holiday was first observed in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776, at which time the Declaration of Independence was read aloud, city bells rang, and bands played. It was not declared a legal holiday, however, until 1941. The Fourth is traditionally celebrated publicly with parades and pageants, patriotic speeches, and organized firing of guns and cannons and displays of fireworks; early in the 20th century public concern for a "safe and sane" holiday resulted in restrictions on general use of fireworks. Family picnics and outings are a feature of private Fourth of July celebrations."
